28th June - The Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities (MiBAC) receives the proposal for the inscription of the “Historical Centre of Cividale and Longobard Temple” on the Italian Tentative List of the possible candidates to be acknowledged as unesco World Heritage.
1999
The Municipality of Cividale del Friuli submits the application to the World Heritage List Office of the aforementioned Ministry to include Cividale on the Italian Tentative List.

During the official presentation of the Committee for the Promotion of the Patriarchy of Aquileia Project held in Sesto al Reghena in the Benedictine abbey of Longobard foundation, the opportunity of restarting the procedure of the UNESCO nomination of Cividale del Friuli occurs.
2002
First contacts among the CTG of Lombardy Region, Association Carta di Cividale and the Committee for the Promotion of the Patriarchy of Aquileia Project
2003
The Forum of the Associations for the Promotion of Social Tourism “Civitas Austriae”, which has a regional character, was born in Cividale following the model of Brescia. The chairmanship is given to Mr. Bruno Cesca, a professional journalist and expert in cultural and socio-economic development projects. Its members are: the CTG Stelutis Alpinis, Centro Turistico Studentesco of Pordenone, Centro Turistico Studentesco of Trieste, Centro Turistico Acli of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Associazione per lo Sviluppo degli Studi Storici e Artistici di Cividale, Associazione Amici dei Musei di Cividale, Committee for the Promotion of the Patriarchy of Aquileia Project and Association Carta di Cividale.
The Forums of Cividale and Brescia start up a preliminary study on the possible cooperation to be developed and, once identified the “common Longobard paradigm”, they take actions for the progressive involvement of their respective Municipalities, also thanks to the contribution of APT of Brescia.
2004
First joined press conference at the APT in Brescia. The present are: - for the Forums of Cividale and Brescia - Mr. Bruno Cesca, Mr. Diego Scarbolo, Mr. Luigi Bandera, and the General Secretary of the Fondazione CAB, Mr. Agostino Mantovani. The first hypothesis of joined work between Cividale and Brescia along a “Longobard Route” is put forward
Joined participation of the Forums of Brescia and Cividale in meetings and conferences (Verona, Monza, Mestre, Milan, Livorno and Rome).
The Lord Mayors of Cividale and Brescia and the Chairmen of the Forums of the two towns sign the collaboration agreement and set up a study group whose task is that of formulating a plan of development of the partnership in a cultural and touristic-economic perspective.
The study group write the reference document (see section “Documents”) where the creation of a “geo-cultural corridor” of Longobard matrix as well as of interregional and international characteristics is outlined: the skeleton of a Big European Itinerary based on central-eastern and northern European relations already started up by the Committee for the Promotion of the Patriarchy of Aquileia Project and the Association Carta di Cividale.
The Municipality of Cividale officially decides to promote the nomination to WHL UNESCO and sets up an institutional Committee made up of the representatives appointed by the main institutions and public bodies of Friuli Venezia Giulia Regional Authority that are competent on the management of the territory.
2005
The Chairmen of the Forum of the Associations for the Promotion of Social Tourism of Brescia and Cividale (including the Centro Turistico Giovanile, Centro Turistico Studentesco, Centro Turistico ACLI, ARCI, Association Patriarchy of Aquileia, and Association Carta di Cividale) found the “Association Longobardia” with the purpose of creating an integrated “net-shaped” tourist system to coordinate the subscribers for the started procedure of the nomination but also for setting up a wider European network “Longobardia - European Virtual Region”, a “European geo-cultural corridor” that connects the sites with Longobard matrix from Scandinavia to the Ionian Sea, following the journey of the Longobard peoples in history.
2006
The scientific works to apply for the nomination start. At the beginning the nomination includes only the Longobard centres of power in northern Italy (Cividale del Friuli, Brescia, and Castelseprio-Torba).
The nomination named “Cividale and the First Longobard Sites of Power in Italy” is officially included on the Italian Tentative List.
The nomination “Monte Sant’Angelo and the Via Sacra Langobardorum”is officially included on the Italian Tentative List.
2007
The MiBAC promotes the “Longobard” serial nomination for the official submission to UNESCO in Paris in 2008.
Commitment to draw up the scientific Dossier and the Management Plan (Law no. 77/2006) for the nomination.
Ms. Angela Maria Ferroni of MiBAC becomes the technical-scientific coordinator of the whole nomination.
Mr. Bruno Cesca becomes the coordinator of the themes of socio-economic development and informative promotion relative to the “network”.
The MiBAC combines the two Longobard nominations by including the Longobard monuments of Langobardia minor (Spoleto, Campello sul Clitunno, Benevento and Monte Sant’Angelo) in the serial site. The name of the combined nomination becomes “Italia Langobardorum. Centres of Power and Worship (568-774 A.D.)”
2008
9th January – In Rome the Cooperation Agreement for the nomination is signed between MiBAC and the stakeholders of the nomination and the commitment to write the Managing Plan is undertaken.
30th January - The documentation relative to the nomination is submitted to the Unesco Offices in Paris.
March – UNESCO communicates the acceptance of the nomination.
October – Visit of the inspector of Icomos to the serial site.
The pro-tempore network Authority was born. Chairman: the Lord Mayor of Cividale Mr. Attilio Vuga; technical-scientific coordinator Ms. Angela Maria Ferroni (MiBAC); organizational coordinator for the development of the network Mr. Bruno Cesca (Cividale).
February - The institutional agreement of Friuli Venezia Giulia to submit the Unesco nomination “Italia Langobardorum: Centres of Power and Worship” isapproved by the Town Council of Cividale and signed by the representatives of each local reality involved in the project: the deed precedes the signing, which takes place on the 9th February 2008 in Rome, in the Offices of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, of the agreement “extended” at a national level among all the bodies and entities that joined the project.
March - With an official notice sent to the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, Unesco communicates that the nomination “Italia Langobardorum: Centres of Power and Worship”, headed by Cividale del Friuli, has been accepted. As a consequence, the scientific dossier and the management plan “Italia Langobardorum” are sent to the officers of Icomos, the “operating arm” of Unesco, for the examination of their contents. The preliminary investigation envisages the scrupulous and careful examination of the 300 pages of the scientific dossier and of the tomes of the management plan of the sites consisting of 750 pages, divided into two volumes. In October 2008 the inspector of Icomos carries out the field surveys, visiting all the nominated centres and monuments.
2009
May 2009 - Icomos suggests improvements in the nomination.
5th June - The Association Italia Langobardorum is set up in Spoleto with the purpose of managing the actions envisaged in the Management Plan of the nomination and of improving the nomination in order to re-submit it – in agreement with MiBAC – in 2010. The annual chairmanship by rotation is envisaged. First Chairman: Lord Mayor Mr. Attilio Vuga, technical-scientific coordinator Ms. Angela Maria Ferroni, organizational coordinator for the development of the network Mr. Bruno Cesca and administrative coordinator Mr. Giorgio Flamini (Spoleto).
12th May - The international Icomos concludes the phase of the scientific assessment of all the proposed nominations submitted to Unesco in 2008 and for the one submitted by our Country - “Italia Langobardorum: Centres of Power and Worship” – led by Cividale, suggests to postpone the inclusion on the World Heritage List, recommending a series of in-depth analyses and some modifications.
5th June - In Spoleto the Association Italia Langobardorum is set up with the purpose of managing the actions envisaged in the Management Plan of the nomination and the 2010 nomination.
2010
19th January - The Unesco nomination of the network of the Longobard sites, renamed “The Longobards in Italy. The Places of Power (568.774 A.D.)”, is submitted to the offices of the World Heritage List in Paris. As logo of the network the phrase “Italia Langobardorum” is maintained.
28th-29th June – The Executive Board of the Association Italia Langobardorum meets in Cividale and decides the first rotation of the Chairmanship: the office is given to Mr. Raffaele Del Vecchio, Deputy Lord Mayor of Benevento. Technical-scientific coordinator: Ms. Angela Maria Ferroni, organizational coordinator for the development of the network: Mr. Bruno Cesca, administrative coordinator: Mr. Giorgio Flamini (Spoleto) and chairman’s secretary Ms. Valentina Cillo (Benevento).
14th-18th September – Inspection of the inspector of Icomos to the places of the serial site.
